Dual Truths: Michael M.

THROUGH The Passage of the TortoiseI wanted to express both shelter and burden by using my inheritance from my parents, Catholicism. To represent my spirituality, I would bring a universally recognizable item. I chose a disposable plastic bottle filled with water from my home country.

Making this journey with this bottle of water would place more burden than shelter. But out of respect for my parents, I will need to travel with this bottle carefully. It will act as my guide on this quest to a new land filled with hopes and dreams of opportunity. Once I have reached my new home safely, I will be baptized with this water to reestablish what my parents left me, my moral compass.
